South Coast Plaza Ushers in the Year of the Ram
February 12, South Coast Plaza's annual celebration of Lunar New Year, five-year tradition, features all of the glamour of past Lunar New Year celebrations: traditional music, live performances, entertainment, promotions, and cultural exhibits.
Ribbon cutting ceremonies performed by Ambassador Liu Jian, Consul-General of China in Los Angeles and his wife, Madam Chen Xiaoling, former China Consul General in Toronto, Canada and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will open the 11 day celebration at private ceremonies in Jewel Court.
On display over the 11 days of the celebration, ending February 22, will be the traditional display that symbolizes this year's Chinese zodiac symbol, the Year of the Ram, also referred to as sheep or goat. The award-winning design firm that South Coast Plaza has commissioned to design the exhibit distinguishes three rams in a hilltop setting meant to mirror the Chinese saying that "three rams bring bliss, good fortune and happiness."
Chinese global media outlet CNN reported that such eminent personages as Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs, and Robert Murdock, among many others, were born under this sign.
Also on display, the Xinhua Gallery cultural exhibit sponsored by the China National Tourist Office of the fabled China Silk Road, an ancient land trade passage between China and Europe that extends more than 4,000 kilometers.
Werner Escher, Executive Director of Domestic & International Markets, South Coast Plaza said, "We at South Coast Plaza are privileged and honored to have established a close relationship with Ambassador Consul General Liu Jian, Counselor CHE, and consulate colleagues and associates posted at the Consulate in Los Angeles." He continued, "It is our desire that all of our visitors to South Coast Plaza experience the New Year of the Ram."
