Organization to Leverage Professional Sports Team into Destination Marketing Efforts


Irvine, Calif., March 25, 2014 - With the Orange County (OC) Blues Football Club now competing at its new home, Anteater Stadium, Destination Irvine saw being a part of this new era as an opportunity to leverage a local professional sports team into their destination marketing efforts.

As a partner of the OC Blues, the organization is promoting the team through social media and public relations efforts, including ticket giveaways, along with client and media events.

In return, the destination garners exposure through logo placement on the team's jerseys, website, program and other marketing initiatives.

"We see this partnership with the OC Blues as an opportunity to not only attract soccer fans to visit Irvine and stay in our hotels, but to further support the local community," said Linda DiMario, Sr. Director, Economic Development & Tourism, Irvine Chamber of Commerce. "Having a professional sports team can further enhance city pride."

The goal of the 2014 OC Blues Football Club is to bring the USL PRO Championship home to Irvine.
"Coming here is the result of forward momentum for our team," said General Manager Jon Spencer. "Irvine is at the center of one of the premiere locations for soccer in the U.S."

The strongest U.S. men's professional soccer league on and off the field, USL PRO is entering the second season of its partnership with Major League Soccer (MLS). Focused on league stability and franchise performance longevity, USL PRO now features 14 teams, including new rivals for the Blues this season in the LA Galaxy II and Sacramento Republic FC.

Games are played at University of California, Irvine's Anteater Stadium. Thursday games kickoff at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday games kickoff at 7 p.m. and Sunday games kickoff at 4 p.m.
