NASA'S Mars and Stars Lands at Irvine Regional Park October 12
Exploring Other Worlds with OC Parks and JPL
On October 12, Entry, Descent and Landing Engineer Eric Blood from JPL will deliver an exciting presentation titled "Exploring Other Worlds - Mars" surrounding his experience with landing the Curiosity Rover, and the future of Mars exploration.
Spacecraft traveling to Mars have to first survive the journey and then the challenging atmosphere in order to land safely on the surface. Once on Mars, spacecraft or rovers face dust storms, drastic temperatures and challenging terrain. The program will explore what is gained from robotically exploring Mars and how the spacecraft are built to endure the adventure.
Following the presentation, guests will enjoy telescope stargazing with Astronomy 4 You and have an opportunity to meet Eric Blood. Kids' crafts and games will also be available as we wait for the sun to set before the presentation.
Before attending Mars and Stars, visit the animals of the OC Zoo. The OC Zoo, located inside Irvine Regional Park, will offer free admission from 4 p.m. to close at 5:30 p.m. Irvine Park Railroad will also be open until 6 p.m.
JPL's series of events are free and open to the public.. The events are held outside so it is recommended to dress warmly and bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit on. Join OC Parks and JPL for the perfect family adventure through the galaxy at Irvine Regional Park.
