After presenting a limited number of shows last year, the new FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA is in full swing and has an impressive lineup of shows coming this autumn. Country music stars, classic rockers, an evening of contemporary Christian music and a good old rabble-rousing punk rock show will be part of the fun. Located inside the Orange County Great Park, FivePoint Amphitheatre brings live music back to Irvine, something that had been sorely missing since the closing of the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre two years ago.
Here’s a look at the amphitheater’s concert calendar for September.
Sept. 14 – Jason Mraz with Brett Dennen
Mraz has a new album out called Know., a cleverly-titled follow-up to his previous release, Yes!, and if you haven’t heard it yet you may be surprised to hear that the singer is rapping again for the first time in a long time. You’ll also hear some of that in this show with opening act Dennen, who also has a brand new album out called Here’s Looking at You Kid.
Sept. 15 – Rascal Flatts with Dan + Shay, Trent Harmon
Rascal Flatts are still riding high with their Back to Us album from last year; in fact, that is the name they’re using for this current tour. The beloved hitmakers have sold more than 20 million records and have racked up 16 #1 singles, and fans will hear a bunch of those at this show. Dan + Shay and Trent Harmon each have new albums to showcase.
Sept. 21 – for KING & COUNTRY with Tenth Avenue North, Plumb, Unspoken, Hannah Kerr
This is the 95.9 The Fish Family Night show featuring a bunch of hot Christian music performers, headlined by the flashy For King & Country. The guys are beginning a tour next month to showcase their Oct. 5 new release, Burn the Ships, and that’s supposed to be the first time they’ll play any of the album’s songs live. Maybe they’ll test out a new song or two anyway, but fans should expect the band to have a set list that draws from previous releases.
Sept. 27 – Deep Purple, Judas Priest, the Temperance Movement
Classic rockers Deep Purple and legendary metal kings Judas Priest face off in an evening sure to resound with favorites like “Smoke on the Water,” “Space Truckin’,” “Woman from Tokyo,” “Turbo Lover,” “Breaking the Law,” “Living After Midnight” and lots of other familiar cuts. Like the two headliners, opening act the Temperance Movement is also from the UK.
Sept. 28 – Flogging Molly with Dropkick Murphys
No, you didn’t miss a few months, it’s not St. Patrick’s Day yet. But it is, as the slogan for the two band’s tour states, time to celebrate “over 20 years of mayhem.” Expect to maybe hear some rarely-performed cuts as these two rowdy purveyors of Irish-themed punk look back over their long careers. No need to wear green to this show; just be ready to dance.
Sept. 29 – Jason Aldean with Dee Jay Silver, Luke Combs, Lauren Alaina
The Aldean Army will be out in full force for this concert and you can bet that Jason and his band will be feeling loose; this show is the last stop on the country star’s Neon Tour 2018. And Aldean couldn’t have a hotter trio of upcoming stars warming up for him than Combs, Alaina and Silver.
Sept. 30 – Rise Against with AFI, Anti-Flag
Chicago punk rockers Rise Against will hit a major milestone next year as they celebrate their 20th anniversary; AFI and Anti-Flag are veteran acts too with their beginnings going back 27 and 30 years respectively. So this will be a fine-tuned evening of music with lots of political commentaries included.
