An in-depth exploration of one of the most beloved masterpieces of music

Los Angeles, CA - (November 22, 2013) -Salastina Music Society will present the complete set of Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons at three different locations throughout Southern California: Friday, December 6 at 8pm at Church of the Angels in Pasadena; Saturday, December 7 at 4pm at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica; and Sunday, December 15 at 7pm at Concordia University's Good Shepherd Chapel in Irvine. The program will feature co-artistic directors Maia Jasper and Kevin Kumar (violins) as soloists in the four concertos, while KUSC's Brian Lauritzen will lead the audience on a guided tour through each of the seasons. An excellent roster of guest artists will form the ensemble of strings and baroque guitarist.

Currently in its fourth season, the Salastina Music Society is a concert series dedicated to presenting world-class performances of chamber music throughout Southern California. Founders/Artistic Directors Maia Jasper and Kevin Kumar bring a fresh approach to the classical concert experience, resulting in innovative performances with broad audience appeal. To date, several of Salastina's performances have been broadcast nationally on American Public Media's Performance Today.

"There are good reasons why so many people love Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons," says co-artistic director Maia Jasper. "Not only is it incredibly fresh and beautiful music, Vivaldi also captures the essence of the different seasons in such a unique way. We plan to bring out all the different colors and characters that are in these masterpieces!"

Kevin Kumar, co-artistic director, adds, "We're excited to have Brian Lauritzen join us once again to host the exploration of the work and provide valuable context. It's not commonly known that there are sonnets, possibly written by Vivaldi himself, that are associated with each ‘Season'. Prompted by Brian, the musicians will demonstrate the musical word-painting and storytelling that Vivaldi wonderfully achieves. This will be a very special event!"

The concerts will take place on December 6, 2013 at 8 pm in the historic Church of the Angels (1100 Avenue 64, Pasadena, CA 91105), December 7, 2013 at 4pm in First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica (1220 2nd St, Santa Monica, CA 90401), and December 15 at 7pm in Concordia University's Good Shepherd Chapel (1530 Concordia, Irvine, CA 92612). The audience is invited to mingle with the artists at the receptions after the performances. Advance online tickets are available ($28 General Admission) and immediately prior to the performance at the ticketing desk ($35). The online ticketing link can be found at Please call (323)332-6874 with any questions.

About Salastina Music Society:
The Salastina Music Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting world-class performances of chamber music. With the goals of broad audience appeal and innovative programming, Founders/Artistic Directors Maia Jasper and Kevin Kumar purposefully design each concert to be slightly shorter than the average classical music concert. Other hallmarks of the Society are: visual and aural variety in ensemble combinations and repertoire; "free applause zones"; thoughtfully chosen new music; tangible audience participation; and extra-musical enhancements to the concert experience.
