VISITOR SPENDING IN IRVINE CONTINUES TO INCREASE YEAR OVER YEAR
Visitors Add More Than a Half Billion Dollars to the Local Economy in 2013
Irvine, Calif. May 8, 2014 - Destination Irvine released statistics from the 2013 Visitor Impact report conducted specifically for Irvine. In 2013, traveler expenditures for Irvine came to an estimated $522 million, an increase of nearly 2 percent over 2012. The travel industry contributed $28.7 million in local and state taxes.

"The impact of the multi-million dollar Irvine travel industry extends well beyond the hospitality sector. Many businesses that primarily serve local residents, such as those in arts, entertainment, recreation, and retail, also benefit from visitor spending," said Bill Klein, Project Manager, Dean Runyan Associates, Inc. "This spending generates jobs for local residents and tax revenue for the city."
The travel industry supported 5,490 Irvine jobs and was responsible for adding $193 million in wages to the local economy.
It is estimated that without visitor spending, resident households in Irvine would each pay $350 more a year in state and local taxes.
These numbers are estimates from the Irvine Visitor Impact Report, Calendar Year 2013, a tourism economic impact study conducted by Dean Runyan Associates. Dean Runyan Associates also conducts the California Travel Impacts by County reports for Visit California.
