GAME! Basketball and Contemporary Art explores basketball as a source of creativity, culture, and community connection. The exhibition is anchored by the transformation of Great Park’s four basketball courts featuring original, site-specific artwork by California artist Katy Ann Gilmore, alongside contemporary works from Common Practice: Basketball and Contemporary Art and highlights from Project Backboard’s court renovations around the world.
Founded in Irvine, Project Backboard is a nonprofit that revitalizes public basketball courts through large-scale art installations designed to strengthen communities, inspire play, and activate public spaces. Since 2015, the organization has renovated more than 100 courts across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Portugal.
